Day 302 art meditation … Advent calendar door day December 22

So THIS is why I came … It takes a while for humans to acclimate to each other’s hearts, but here we are. Mom and I decorated our fresh Christmas tree together, and every ornament is from someone we love or have loved and is no longer living … Mom and I are so Present with each other. This …. is why I came.

There are gorgeous #strawstars that she and her friends made in the 1960’s. Every time I see her straw stars I am inspired to make my own, but they are SO much work. The quilling ornaments are ridiculously beautiful, and makes me want to learn quilling ... Having real candles on the tree is such a sacred space. Don’t worry, we take every kind of safety precaution - a fresh fir tree, close all surrounding doors so there are no drafts, someone is looking at the candles at all the time, it’s a quiet watching event, not just for decoration. The Stimmung of watching candles on a tree is so soothing.

I baked this meringue tree cake with orange curd and ‘snow’ (powdered sugar) on the ‘branches’ (lavender) and am making a mental note that there is art and design in everything.  :) For now I have to just keep building what is inside my heart … And trust that I will be guided about how to make it my ‘outside world’, too.
