Day 299.

Day 299 art meditation … Advent calendar door day December 19 …

◉◎⦿◎◉

My parents went on their honeymoon in New York City and went to art exhibits and classical music concerts. This is a slice of our family culture that I really adore.

So I’m so grateful for spending yet another half day in the Philadelphia art museum with my mother this time to see Henri Matisse’s work in the 1930’s… The last exhibit I saw with my mother was of Senga Nengudi, and that exhibit changed my life.

I also spent some time considering that one of the Rockefellers routinely commissioned Henri Matisse for artwork, and by the time Matisse was my age, the middle of his life, he was a celebrity artist, and very well paid. Also, Matisse had a full time secretary, model, accountant, and person who spent her life promoting his work. I’m so familiar with the world of white male privilege, and my quiet heavy role in it, it’s one of the reasons it’s so important to me to break through into taking my own design and writing risks.

⦿

Looking into my heart's relationship with his art,  Matisse took creative risks into the abstract, which makes my heart sing, and the people who supported him also were going against the grain in supporting him. This part interests me. Nothing like Matisse’s art had ever existed before.

I want to set the Intention that two of my next Love Letters in Motion will be for Henri Matisse and Vincent Van Gogh. I want to read everything I can learn about them, I want to recreate their art and design into it. I want to create new art out of my recreations, with my new all lines are beautiful method, which basically is - you need to fail for about ten years before the good stuff comes forth.

⦿

For now, I’m still working on my Senga Nengudi project with this new sketch, and seeing what comes forth.

Grateful for a beautiful day, and even a family day, to boot. Xo Anne
