Day 349

Day 349 Art Meditation, November 9, 2023

New Art-video!
Rolling this out today, because a big part of my All-lines-are-beautiful journey is to connect the dots of my logo and life. I’m weaving in some of my heart-art to tell the story and why this project fills my heart. This homework assignment from 10 years ago, to make a 60 second commercial, was both terrifying and incredibly fulfilling and connecting. Why throw it out? Slow down and be in your heart-space as you listen.
Love, Anne

Day 349 Art Meditation, November 9, 2023

I almost threw away this homework assignment for the Video/Audio class I took in 2014. The goal of my life was to continue being a designer, do what I do best and stay in that lane because it was a career that was both easy for me and had built in challenges that I loved.

Instead I got this All-lines-are-beautiful journey which has been a non stop ride of learning how to find my heart. This homework assignment to make a 60 second commercial was a total heart-moment.

I decided on the theme “I love San Francisco because …” and my classmate and I worked it out that he would be the cameraperson, and I ended up being the person who talked to people. We walked around the Ferry Building and met a mix of tourists and people who live here.

Opening myself up to talking to people in the street to create a creative project is completely new to me, and it was amazing to have a classmate who encouraged me. When it came to large crowds I lost my courage, but I came very close to asking a group of people waiting to get in the SF Public Library to see if they would all hold our “I love San francisco because” signs …

It seems like this experience has nothing to do with anything when it comes to my life, but I’m all about human connection, and trying to open my own heart-space more. It was amazing how other people opened up instantly.

This is me pausing to realize that when we quit our soul-killing jobs and start something new, JOY finds us.

The only part of this K and I “wrote” was “I love San Francisco because …” and had everyone finish the sentence.
Running into a German tourist and speaking German with him about why he loves SF made me so happy.

Meeting the gay couple who adorably muttered something about ‘not being the director of this film’ made me so happy.

The old man who said he loves SF because it’s his home down, obviously BEAMING, made me so happy.

And then K and I went to find one last person to get on camera, and the guy couldn’t have finished the sentence more beautifully: I love San Francisco, because “I can be me”.

K and I felt blown away by that moment. There is so much expressiveness, art, beauty, design, architecture, innovation, sexuality … freedom. A little microcosm of what it means to be in a beautiful democracy.

I’m grateful to all these strangers who were so enthused by this little project.

Using some of my Heart-Art connected to my logo for the Feel of the story. The (imperfect) 60 second Commercial homework assignment is on squares 1, 4 and 7 of this post.

Much love,

Anne
