Day 346

Day 346 art meditation, October 10, 2023

In 1928 Käthe Kollwitz, the German Expressionist artist made a stunningly emotional charcoal art piece that said “Nie wieder Krieg”, “Never again war” … And I’m very much feeling the power of her art today, particularly the period in her life when she created art about war and grief.

Käthe Kollwitz lost her son and grandson to world wars, and her beloved husband died too young before WW2 ended. Out of her depression and grief, she created the most powerful sculptures, paintings, prints and charcoals. She was a Pacifist and deeply political. I am curious about everything there is to learn about Käthe Kollwitz.

I feel all grief and shock from the terrorist attacks against Israel. And there is my mother’s illness. All I can do this week is work on my projects with a heavy heart.

What is wrong with us humans that we can’t feel each other?

Somehow it seems like in this century we humans should be creating something other than wars and separation. It’s unoriginal and predictable.

I feel that if we humans were primarily identified with Art, through Art, in the mysteries of evolving Art, we would not create war or separation. Thinking VERY creatively to solve wars - can art loosen that hard, reactive way of thinking?

I want to contribute something very different to expand our definition of “woke” even more, through my Heart-Art Bundles, because beautiful new life, and possibilities come out of the creation and experience of art. If more of us are willing to do something new and expand our Heart Spaces, it benefits the Whole.

Using a dark piece of my own heart-art bundle to hold space for all this grief.

Love,

Anne
