The most amazing thing happened. Most amazing, I tell you. Here is the Path of the story:
A family friend of ours posted a link on FB to a YouTube video and tagging me - link here. This woman Cari of Berlin was posting videos of what it’s like for non-Germans to learn German and German foods, kind of a mix of a culture and language experience …. Totally fabulous fun videos, especially for me and G to run into since he’s committed to learning German and we want to go to Berlin someday. I/we love her enthusiasm, joy, playfulness and the content she is dealing with ….
G has been working with any language-learning-app, including Duolingo and random YouTube videos he could get his hands on to learn German to get more exposure, and there is always something missing … It was organic for him to follow the YouTube-generated videos of Cari teaching German. G landed onto this link next.
Meanwhile Jeremy an American programmer who moved to Berlin 3 years ago and has been trying to learn German and similarly frustrated … Jeremy found this video of Cari in a German grocery store and emails her asking her to be part of his start up company Seedlang, to use her video / interviewing / social / language-skills as a critical part of Seedlang. She says yes.
G writes to Jeremy saying how much he’d love to work for Seedlang, but can’t do it without pay. Jeremy writes back!
Jeremy and Cari make Seedlang so successful that G ends up working for them and we move to Berlin and live happily ever after.
Ha! #5 didn’t happen, but I DID say we need to visit them when we visit Berlin.
On a serious note, the beautiful part of this Path is how Cari first did what she loved. Just joyfully went out there and created videos about food and language and got all her -Berlin based friends who are from all over the world, to talk about their experience with German food, and learning German …. For me personally I love how open she is … My experience of Germans is to be super super private, reserved, guarded and here she is just completely putting herself out there ….
That is how Jeremy found her. That is how Jeremy was inspired to contact her … because she did what she loved and radiated that joy and love and playfulness. That’s how “fits” happen! Looking at their months and months of work on the Seedlang app, who wouldn't want to learn German?? It’s absolutely adorable and fun … More info about them here.
If you don’t put your heart and soul out there, how can anyone find you? I love this sequence and Path in a Nothing-Happens-In-a-Straight-Line or All-Lines-Are-Beautiful-kind of way … And I want to design into it and then send it to them, and then go visit them. And meanwhile ….. just be inspired by them … xoxo
